Amazon Prime’s exclusive, The Tomorrow War got released on the 2nd of July’21. This movie stars Chris Pratt, J.K. Simmons and Yvonne Strahovski in the leading roles and is directed by Chris McKay. On the surface, it looks just like another summer action flix but it has a more serious and important message hidden. The plot is very simple. Soldiers arrive from the future asking for help to save the planet from aliens. Chris Pratt gets deployed to the future in hopes of saving the world for his daughter. But there is so much more in the story and message that it tries to deliver. Here are few things you should know.
Before that for everyone who hasn’t decided whether they want watch the movie or not. Here is the trailer for The Tomorrow War.
The Hint that everyone Missed
One of the major plotlines in the movie is the aliens. It is informed to us that these new species somehow arrived on earth undetected. But surprisingly, the aliens behaved much more like savages and used no technology of any form. There was no sign of a more sophisticated and much-developed species that had pre-planned this whole invasion. All they had was a rudimentary hive typed societal structure. This was a clear hint throughout the entire movie that neither these aliens drove a spaceship nor planned a global invasion in the first place. Then who are these creatures and how they are here?
Never Stop Expecting in the Tomorrow War
The most entertaining aspect of the movie is the special effects and the action sequences. The movie throws the audience in the belly of the beast without any warning or prep time. Although the setting is fictional, action sequences are really breathtaking. It’s not like they are doing something out of the box. It is that they don’t end like the other clichéd action sequences. There is an element of surprise in each of the action scenes. The sheer animosity and the savageness of the aliens are well portrayed in the movie.
Can’t destroy the present and believe in a better future
One of the messages that The Tomorrow War gives us is the preservation of nature. The movie shamelessly incorporates the repercussions of not taking global warming seriously in its story. From glaciers melting at a rapid rate to implying the message that the only way we can secure a better future for the next generation is by acting appropriately and responsibly in the present. Even the future shown in the movie is warmer and more tropical than the present. It gives us a glimpse of what the world could be in 30 years if we don’t act now. It’s not for us. It was never for us. It was always for our children. As stated in the movie, the future might have enough resources to pull of the solution. So, the best time is this time.
When Science meets Fiction
The whole concept of how the deadly aliens invaded the earth is loosely based on a real-life concern in the scientific community. Due to this global warming, the glaciers are melting and releasing the ancient bacteria and viruses that were entrapped for millions of years. This could be a great concern for humans as we might not have any immunities against these powerful foes. The plotline of Chris Pratt’s new movie is inspired by this. Although, the idea of finding aliens under the ice has never been the concern of the scientific community. But we never know what we might find.
Reasons to die for
In Amazon Prime’s The Tomorrow War, we get to see a unique perspective of the characters. The reasons why the characters can die for. The character Dorian, played by actor Edwin Hodge, is suffering from cancer and like many of us, he wants to end his life on his own terms. This character and his motivation signify how much less control we have over our lives. That even in the face of death we want to control it. While on the other hand Dane Foster, played by Chris Pratt, is that he is not here for himself but his daughter and her future. The difference between these two motivating factors is the movie. From trying to control something that is certain and unavoidable we should devote our lives to changing something that is achievable and important.
What we need to stop The Tomorrow War
While everyone is shouting about how uncool the aliens looked and how there are technical issues with time travel in the movie, let me tell you this. The movie was about values and character-building conveyed to us in one of the most entertaining and yet dumbest ways possible. A summer action flix. Amazon Prime’s new movie talks about how you would require all the help from everyone you know to solve the problems that we are going to face in future. In the movie, Chris Pratt’s character, Dane Foster, gets assistance not only form his daughter from the future but also from his dad played by J. K. Simmons to defeat the enemy. It’s always about giving second chances and being there for your family even when no one believes you. It gives us the good old family feelings back when everything is gloomy in the real world.
